When I bring my Computer into the shop what do I need to bring?

The only portion of your computer that we need is the CPU unit also referred to sometimes as the "tower". If your computer is a laptop, we will need the AC adapter as well as the laptop itself. No other cables or peripheral devices are needed unless they are malfunctioning or need installation.

What do I need to keep my computer protected on the Internet?

A good solid Anti-Virus program as well as a few anti-Spyware scanners, and the latest security updates for your operating system. Some of the best anti-spyware applications on the market today are free. Microsoft Security Essentials is a free solution that does a very good job removing most viruses. For Spyware protection and removal we recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Spybot - Search and Destroy. Some other computer professionals recommend using a software based firewall but more times then not, these programs only confuse the average user and cause more problems than they fix. Additional firewall software is really not necessary as the newer versions of windows already have a software firewall built-in. Even with the recommended anti-virus software it is still very possible to get a virus infection. NO ANTI-VIRUS/ANTI-SPYWARE SOFTWARE IS, OR EVER WILL BE 100% EFFECTIVE.

I need to run a system recovery on my computer but I no longer have the recovery CD's. What can I do?

Recovery CD's are usually very specific and only work on a particular make and model of PC. Ace Computer Service can usually reinstall Windows without the recovery CD's using OEM Windows CD's. A legitimate license is still required and any software that came with the PC will not be restored. Additionally, we can backup your important data before reinstalling windows for an additional labor charge.

I have forgotten my Windows password. How can I reset it?

Ace Computer Service has the necessary software to reset your logon password for any NT based operating system. Password reset usually takes a few hours and can be done either in-shop or onsite.

My computer has a copy of Windows that is "not genuine". What can I do?

This happens for 1 of 2 reasons. 1. The software that checks to make sure your copy of windows is legit has malfunctioned. This is an easy repair and can be straightened out with relative ease. 2. The second reason is you do not own a legit copy of Windows (XP, Vista or 7). This usually happens when a friend upgrades or installs Windows for you without you having to purchase a legitimate copy. This is known as a "Corporate" version of Windows and is indeed not genuine. Ace Computer Service does not condone software piracy, but we will still service your computer. However, we will NOT reinstall this pirated copy of Windows under any circumstance.

If for some reason I am unable to pickup my computer after repairs are completed will I be charged a storage fee?

Ace computer Service does not charge storage fees. If you are unable to pickup your computer right away, we will hold onto your PC for up to 30 days. Ace Computer Service reserves the right to sell any unclaimed PC after 30 days to recover our losses. However, we dislike doing this, and as long as you keep us updated to your current situation,  we will generally hold on to your computer for you for up to 90 days.

 How can I save money?

For the benefit of our local customers we provide a 10% off labor coupon in the "smart saver" section of the local AT&T yellow pages. Only 1 coupon per customer per visit. All coupons must be presented before work has begun and copies will not be accepted. Coupon abuse will not be tolerated and may result denial of services.
